APRIL 12th, 1971

7:20pm — A woman named Terri Keating is at the R.O.T.C. office on the University of Arkansas campus where Pauline Storment works as a secretary under a work-study program. It is at this time Pauline asks the woman if she wants to go to a gospel concert that evening that is said to begin at 8pm and would last about an hour and a half to two hours. Terri Keating states she cannot go. Terry also tells investigators that she believes Pauline was introduced to Gordon Cummings.

8:00pm — Law Enforcement theorize that Pauline Storment did attend the 8pm concert, though no witnesses or evidence has been found to substantiate this or that she left the concert and went to the campus library and sometime around 9:20pm must have left and begin her walk home.

Around 9:40pm — Mike Adair would be driving his vehicle on South Duncan Avenue, it is unknown if he was northbound or southbound, when he saw Pauline Storment at the intersection of South Duncan Ave. and Center Street and he noted there was a man following close behind her. In Adair’s statement he said he then drove around behind his apartment building. He got out of the car and heard the scream. He then ran to where the victim was and he heard her say that someone hit her and had been following her and that she also said the suspect ran toward the University.

About 9:43pm — Peter Novick stated he was driving down South Duncan Avenue and about to turn right on Treadwell Street and he thought he head someone yell for help. It wasn’t exactly loud and it only happened one time and as he turned the corner, he slowed down and looked around to see if he could see anything. As he only heard the yell once and though it might have been a party since often one would hear women screaming once or twice in the area. It was at that moment someone ran in front of his car and from a from the northwest corner of the intersection of Duncan and Treadwell on his left which cause Peter to apply his breaks. As that happened, the person ran in front of the car lights and Peter got a good description of him. Peter stated, he was about to yell something at him as he looked at him and the man ran to the right through the Summit Terrace Apartments parking lot and that was the last he saw him. Yet when Peter Novick thought more about where the man came from he stated that it seemed like he came from between and be house where Pauline lay half in the street and half in the road and the adjacent house and as he ran in front of his car it was in a sort of curved path. It looked like he running towards Duncan then he curved around and probably wasn’t expecting my car to be there.

Gary Gammil, stated he was traveling north on South Duncan to Treadwell Street when he made a right turn onto Treadwell and pulled into the parking lot of Summit Terrace Apartment. It was then when he heard the scream and ran towards them and when he got to victim, and looked around he could not see anyone else. He stated her books and personal belongings were laying on the grass, north of a light pole. Pauline Storment stated he hit me and was holding her chest as she said it.

Joe Clifton, was also driving his vehicle, and preparing to make a right hand turn at the intersection of South Duncan and Treadwell when he saw a man following behind Pauline about twenty feet and another couple walking, but didn’t thinking anything of the man following her. However, he did state that he thought about stopping and asking her if she needed a ride because she had her arms full of books and other items. Instead he made the right hand turn onto Treadwell and then another into the parking lot of the Summit Terrace Apartments when he heard what he though was a drunk girl or young lady having a good time, then this yelling sounded serious, for it became clear it was someone yelling “Help Me, Help Me”

About 9:46pm — Joe Clifton would park his vehicle, get out, and begin running across the parking toward the screams. By the time he got down the hill, this other man whom he did not know was running along side him.

About 9:47pm — It was was at this time both Joe Clifton and the other man could see Pauline was laying half in the yard and the street in front of the house at the northwest corner of South Duncan Ave. and Treadwell Street while she was also struggling to get up on her feet. They could see one of her arms was berry red and soaked with blood. Joe Clifton, would also state that just before he got there he looked up and down the street and did not see anyone. Joe Clifton stated, he asked her if the man that was following her did this and she said yes. He asked her which way did he go, where the cuts were and she did not answer. Then she told him to get her books.

About 9:48pm — Mrs. Allen who is the wife of Larry Allen and at the time lived at 728 Treadwell, which is three houses to the west from the intersection of where Pauline Storment was stabbed, stated that she was the third person to the scene on the night of the murder and saw no one other than the two boys that were helping Miss Storment. She went on to mention that shortly after this she did see a subject walk east on Treadwell but he seemed in no hurry and she just supposed he was an onlooker.

Jack Huff stated he heard a loud scream and a yell for help, but when he got to the street there were three or four people gathering around Pauline Storment. she was trying to get up, so he helped her on to the grass. Pauline, said that a person with glasses hit her in the chest. She told Jack, she was a Junior at the University. She also stated that the man that hit her had been following her.
