The Anonymous Letter

On October 10, 1980, Police Chief Bob Jones of the Fayetteville, Arkansas Police Department received a letter from Official Detective Group – A Division of R.G.H. Publishing Corp. In the letter it stated they received an anonymous letter regarding a November 1974, issues of Master Detective in which the murder of Pauline Storment was depicted as the MYSTERIOUS BUTCHERY OF THE BEAUTIFUL COED.

In the letter which was signed “YOUR FRIEND” it stated that Pauline was killed by mistake because the killer thought she was someone else. Yet the killed also seemed rather worried that they would have been charged with withholding evidence which suggests the anonymous writer might have already given a statement to the police.

The letter would not be tested for fingerprints until the 1990’s of which they were able to pull partial latent prints off the letter. It was also revealed that the letter had been mailed from Capron, Virginia which was a prison known as Southhampton Correction Center and it officially closed in 2009.

However, unless the Arkansas State Police has misplaced the fingerprint information they were sent I am afraid that this evidence has been lost along with nearly all the original case documentation and DNA evidence collected in the case.
